Ernst Caraway

Ernst Kümmel (born March 16, 1925 in Magdeburg ), called "Anti", is a former German football player and football coach.

Kümmel played for cricket Viktoria Magdeburg between 1939 and 1944 and joined BSG Eintracht Sudenburg, the forerunner of 1. FC Magdeburg , after the war . In 1955 he ended his active career with the Magdeburg team, which in the meantime started as BSG Motor Mitte Magdeburg and played in the second-rate GDR league in the year of his departure . During his active time he was appointed to the Saxony-Anhalt state selection twice and played 30 games for the Magdeburg city selection. With the city selection he became German youth champion in 1943.

From 1959 to the mid-1980s, "Anti" took on various coaching activities at SC Aufbau Magdeburg and the later 1. FC Magdeburg. After he was initially responsible for the youngsters and the 2nd team, he was appointed head coach of the league team in July 1962. With her he won the GDR soccer cup in 1964 and 1965 and thus led the Magdeburgers into their first European cup games . When 1. FC Magdeburg, which had been founded in the meantime, suffered relegation difficulties in the 1965/66 season, Kümmel was dismissed as head coach in January 1966. Then he worked again in the youth division of the FCM, coached the team of the youth league and from 1983 to 1985 the FCM junior league team.
