Gerhard Kunze (born October 16, 1924 - July 3, 2006 ) was a German football referee .

Career

From 1958 to 1974, Gerhard Kunze, a resident of Karl Marx, played in 197 GDR league games of the German Football Association and directed three finals in the GDR Cup, the FDGB Cup . He also served as FIFA referee between 1963 and 1974 and is included in the list of referees from the German Football Association , the DFB counterpart of the GDR , with three international A matches and 14 European Cup matches. In 1970 he was in charge of the second exhibition cup final between Arsenal London and RSC Anderlecht . His sporting highlight was his assignment as a linesman at the European Football Championship in Belgium in 1972 .

After his active career he was u. a. Head of the DFV referee commission until 1986 and worked as a referee observer in the Northeast German Football Association. He was relieved of his role in the DFV Referees Committee in connection with the events surrounding FIFA referee Bernd Stumpf in the match between 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BFC Dynamo on March 22, 1986.
