On August 5, 1909, the forerunner of today's VfB was founded as Zittauer BK 09. Since 1912 the club called itself FC Sportlust . When the previous sports clubs were banned without exception in 1945, the soccer team of SG Zittau became the quasi-successor to Sportlust. Accordingly, today's VfB lists the ZBK 09 and Sportlust on its homepage in the club's family tree. Ultimately, this is justified by the continuity of actors and play area. Probably the biggest sporting exclamation mark could be set during the Second World War , when the club was represented in the Gauliga Sachsen in 1942/43 , where it met leading German clubs such as the Dresdner SC or the VfB Leipzig .

In 1950 and 1951 several renaming took place - initially in ZSG and Textil , later in BSG Progress-Center Zittau . From 1954 the association joined the BSG Lokomotive Zittau .

In terms of sport, the East Saxons, who played in the Sachsenliga until 1952 , were always at home in the Dresden District League until the late 1970s , with the exception of their participation in the Second GDR League in 1962 . This changed when the local truck manufacturer and carrier company VEB Robur-Werke Zittau got on board . From June 1, 1971 the association was called BSG Motor Robur Zittau, from 1980 BSG Robur Zittau. As early as 1978, the Zittauern succeeded in climbing into the GDR league . After only one season, Robur Zittau had to join the Dresden district league together with TSG Gröditz . In 1981, the Zittau again managed to rise to the second highest division in the GDR. This again proved to be a size too big for the club. Analogous to 1978, the Zittauer had to leave the league this time with Ascota Karl-Marx-Stadt .

In 1990, the successor to BSG was founded: SG Robur Zittau . The soccer department became independent under the name VfB Zittau . The team from the tri-border region was classified in the State League of Saxony . Until 1999, VfB belonged to the highest Saxon league, mostly with secured midfield positions. 1999 succeeded Zittau a not thought possible promotion to the Oberliga Nordost (Staffel Süd) . VfB reached third place in its first league season. After relegation in 2002, VfB Zittau quickly went downhill in the following period. After three seasons in the regional league, VfB was passed from the regional league to the Dresden regional class in 2006 . Since 2011 you have been playing in the Oberlausitz regional league .

offspring

In August 2012 Dynamo Dresden and VfB Zittau agreed on a cooperation in the youth sector. The common goal of the closed cooperation is to support the development of young, talented up-and-coming footballers for the performance areas of both clubs. The coaching area should also benefit from this: From now on, all junior coaches at VfB Zittau will have the opportunity to take part in internal coaching and advanced training courses at the youth training center in Dresden.
