The Weinau Park Stadium is located on the eastern outskirts of Zittau ( Saxony ) in the Weinau Park . At the end of the 19th century, a cycling track was built on the site , the covered wooden stand of which is the oldest sports facility stand in Germany and is a listed building. The athletics facility was built in 1915. From 1955 to the beginning of the 1990s it was called the Willi Gall Stadium after a resistance fighter murdered during the Nazi era in 1941 .

history

On the initiative of the Zittau cycling club, a cycling track was built and inaugurated on August 19, 1894. The construction costs up to then amounted to 8,700 marks. After the ten-year lease with the cycling club (from 1899 it called itself the “Zittau Cycling Club”), the city council offered the Weinau racecourse with a grandstand for 4,000 marks. After negotiations, the city council bought the racetrack with grandstand and all accessories for 1,000 marks. The takeover took place on June 1, 1904.
