Dieter Engelhardt (born August 18, 1938 in Heideloh ) was a soccer player in the area of ​​the GDR soccer association . Engelhardt began his footballing career at the age of nine in Sandersdorf and played there until 1957, most recently with the company sports association (BSG) activist Sandersdorf in the fourth-class Halle district league . In the second half of the 1957 season, Engelhardt played his first games for SC Rotation Leipzig in the GDR league. He made his league debut on September 8, 1957 in the encounter on the 16th match day Motor Zwickau - SC Rotation Leipzig (1: 2) as a right winger. By the end of the season, the 19-year-old was used in three other league games. Just one season later, Engelhardt had prevailed as a regular player, on the right wing - he retained this position in the following years - he was used in all 26 league games. It was only on August 7, 1960 that he was absent for the first time after 65 appearances in a league game. By the end of the 1962/63 season, GDR football was now playing in the summer-spring rhythm, Engelhardt had played 145 league games for SC Rotation and scored 21 goals.

SC Leipzig

In June 1963, soccer was reorganized in Leipzig, the Rotation and Lokomotive sports clubs were dissolved and the new Leipzig sports club was founded. The supposedly best football players were assigned to the sports club, while the “rest of Leipzig” was incorporated into the BSG Chemie . Engelhardt belonged to the group of players who played in the future for SC Leipzig in the league. After a phase of experimentation with the newly formed team, coach Rudolf Krause had Engelhardt play alternately on the right or left in the attack. Only in the second half of the season Krause Engelhardt used consistently as a center forward. Engelhardt had no adjustment problems in the new bypass and played 21 of the 26 played point games. Surprisingly, the sports club was only third behind the new master Chemistry Leipzig. Although they reached the final of the soccer cup, they lost 3-2 despite a goal from Engelhardt against Aufbau Magdeburg. The phase of the soccer section of the SC Leipzig lasted only two and a half years. By the winter of 1965 Engelhardt had his regular place as a center forward and came to 52 missions in the 65 point games played during this time, in which he scored eight goals. In 1964 Engelhardt was a member of the GDR Olympic team, which won the bronze medal at the Olympic soccer tournament in Tokyo . However, he only played the first round game (GDR - Iran 4-0). 1. FC locomotive

On January 20, 1966, the 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was brought into being by spinning off the soccer section from the SC Leipzig. Engelhardt played 40 league games for 1. FC Lok in which he scored two goals. Added each without scoring three East German Cup games and all eight Fairs Cup games in Leipzig in the 1966/67 season. In 1966 Engelhardt was appointed to three international A matches. In these test matches in preparation for the European Championship qualification, coach Károly Sós tried the Leipzig as a right striker. After Engelhardt had completed another high-performance season as a center forward with 37 competitive appearances in the 1966/67 season, he had to end his competitive sports career after 237 league games with 31 goals after the first two point games of the 1967/68 season due to a serious injury at the age of 29 .
