Football section
The first Freiberg football club before and after the war were Sportfreunde 04 Freiberg, who even played in the highest national class - the Gauliga Ostsachsen - (first class Gau-Ostsachsen). In 1949 the SG unit Freiberg was founded. 1950 The soccer department SG Einheit Freiberg is affiliated to the SG Bergstadt Freiberg, which has since been founded. The HSG Wissenschaft Freiberg was founded in 1952 and was classified in the district class. Until 1952 the Freiberg football was assigned to the Dresden district, from 1952 to the Chemnitz district (Karl-Marx-Stadt). The BSC Freiberg was created briefly after 1945 under the name Union Freiberg. In 1952 Freiberg was incorporated into the Science Sports Association . The SG was renamed HSG Wissenschaft Freiberg, the current Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg acted as the sponsoring company .
On a sporting level, Freiberg played in 1948/49 for one season in the Landesliga Sachsen ( SBZ ), which ended with fourth place. 1959 succeeded together with Wismut Stollberg the first promotion to the district league Karl-Marx-Stadt , which was held with short interruptions until 1989. Freiberg just barely failed due to the possible rise to the GDR league with three runners-up at Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt , FC Karl-Marx-Stadt II and progress Krumhermersdorf . In 1963, Wissenschaft Freiberg won the Karl-Marx-Städter District Cup against Aufbau Aue-Bernsbach and qualified for the FDGB Cup 1963/64 , in which the HSG lost to BSG Stahl Riesa in the second main round .
In 1967 HSG Wissenschaft merged with Turbine Freiberg to form SG Union Freiberg. In 1981 the name was changed to BSG Geology Freiberg. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the BSG Geologie withdrew its team from the district league and the club was renamed SV Bergstadt Freiberg again. In 1995, SV Bergstadt merged with PSV Freiberg to form BSC Freiberg. In terms of sport, the club stayed mostly in the Chemnitz district league area. 2007 succeeded without a defeat, the rise to the soccer regional league Saxony (then 5th league), from which Freiberg in 2009 as a relegated bottom of the table was relegated. After a three-year interlude in the regional league (2014-2017), the BSC has since returned to the regional class (7th division). Although the club was champion in the middle state class in the 2018/19 season, the club's board did not report to the state league of Saxony, as the squad was not considered suitable for the state league. The previous attendance record was reached on October 12, 2014 at the Sachsenpokal eighth final match against Dynamo Dresden with 3871 spectators.
In 2001 and 2002 the Chemnitz District Cup was won.
