Rune Jansson (born May 29, 1932 in Skinnskatteberg ; † November 24, 2018 ) was a Swedish wrestler .

Career

Rune Jansson started wrestling as a teenager in his hometown of Skinnskatteberg. He soon belonged to the elite of Swedish wrestlers in the Greco-Roman style. He moved to the higher-class club IS Örgryte Göteborg , where he found good coaches and training opportunities. In 1956 he was the first Swedish champion and twice beat the multiple world heavyweight champion Bertil Antonsson at tournaments in Sweden , although he weighed only about 90 kg. In 1957, Rune Jansson moved to Uddevalla and was now fighting for Uddevalla IL.

He also wrestled very successfully at international championships and won a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne . He even won over the later Olympic champion Giwi Kartosia from the USSR , but because of a defeat against the Bulgarian Dobrew he had to be satisfied with the bronze medal.

He also fought very well at the 1958 World Cup in Budapest and wrestled u. a. draw against eventual world champion Rostom Abaschidze from the USSR .

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , he injured himself after the first round, so that he could no longer wrestle.

At the 1962 World Cup in Toledo / USA , he took 4th place. Abashidze and the Bulgarian Boyan Radev were better than him this time.

After these world championships, Rune Jansson ended his wrestling career. The results of the championships in which he participated can be seen in the following section.

Rune Jansson lived in Uddevalla and was an inspector in a shipyard.
