İsmet Atlı
İsmet Atlı (* 1931 in Çukurören ; † April 4, 2014 in Kozan ) was a Turkish wrestler . He was an Olympic light heavyweight champion in 1960 .
Career
İsmet Atlı grew up in Adana and soon got into wrestling. During his career, Necati Tokbudak, Nuri Boytorun, Yasar Doğu and Celal Atik were his coaches. In 1951 his international career began, which lasted until 1962 and culminated with the Olympic victory in Rome in 1960. After finishing his playing days he worked as a trainer in Turkey. Atlı died on April 4, 2014 in a hospital in Kozan .

- 1954: 2nd place , World Cup in Tokyo, F, Wed, after victories over György Gurics (Hungary), Genuth, (Argentina), Kazuo Katsuramoto (Japan), Giwi Kartosia (USSR) and the final defeat against Abbas Zandi (Iran)
- 1955: 5th place, World Cup in Karlsruhe, gr, Wed, after victories over Splitek (CSSR), Lazăr Bujor (Romania) and defeats to György Gurics (Hungary) and Rune Jansson (Sweden)
- 1956: 1st place , World Cup in Istanbul, F, Wed, after victories over Nikola Nikolov (Bulgaria), Lepri (Italy), Giorgi Schirtladse (USSR) and Kazuo Katsuramoto (Japan)
- 1956: 4th place, OS in Melbourne, F, Wed, after victories over Faiz (Pakistan), Kazuo Katsuramoto (Japan), Abbas Zandi (Iran) and a defeat against Gogua Shirtladze (USSR)
- 1957: 3rd place , World Championships in Istanbul, F, HS, after victories over Nouri (Iran), Yamazaki (Japan), György Gurics (Hungary), a draw against Boris Kulayev (USSR) and a defeat against Petko Sirakow (Bulgaria)
- 1960: Gold medal , OS in Rome, F, HS, with victories over Holzherr (Switzerland), Anatoli Albul (USSR), Walko Kostow (Bulgaria), Robert Steckle (Canada), Viking Palm (Sweden) and Gholam Reza Takhti (Iran)
- 1962: 3rd place , World Championship in Toledo (Ohio) / USA, gr, HS, with victory over Sugiyama (Japan), draw against Nicolae Martinescu (Romania) and Bojan Radew (Bulgaria) and one defeat against Rostom Abashidze (USSR)
- 4th place, World Cup in Toledo / USA, F, HS, with victories over Said Mustafow (Bulgaria), Esko Ojanperä (Canada) and defeats against Alexander Medwed (USSR) and Gholam Reza Takhti (Iran)
