Kalervo Rauhala

Kalervo Juhani Rauhala (born October 19, 1930 in Ylistaro , † September 21, 2016 in Seinäjoki ) was a Finnish wrestler . He won the silver medal behind Axel Grönberg from Sweden at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 .

Career

Kalervo Rauhala began wrestling as a youth at the wrestling club Ylistaron Kilpa-Veljet . He made rapid progress and in 1951 was the first Finnish champion in the Greco-Roman style in the middleweight division. In 1952 he qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Helsinki in the Greco-Roman style in the middleweight division. Kalervo Rauhala was able to fully convince in Helsinki and won the silver medal there with four wins . Gustav Gocke from Germany and the Soviet champion Nikolai Below were among the wrestlers he defeated .

Also at the 1953 World Championships in Naples Kalervo Rauhala succeeded with third place in the middleweight division, again in the Greco-Roman. Style, winning a medal. He won over the German master Johann Sterr from Munich and the later Olympic champion Branislav Simić from Yugoslavia.

At the 1955 World Cup in Karlsruhe in Greco-Roman. Kalervo Rauhala was back on the wrestling mat in style. However, he was very unlucky because after beating Iranian Mansoor Hasrati in the first round he had to give up injured and was therefore unplaced.

He did not start at other international championships. But he was still available to his country in many international battles until 1960. He did not shy away from competing in the heavyweight division in 1955 against the German Wilfried Dietrich, who was still at the beginning of his career . He delivered this an even fight and only just lost on points.

It is also noteworthy that his sons Pekka and Jouha Ringer also became international, to which their father Kalervo certainly contributed a lot.
