Hong Kong , then still a British Crown Colony , took part in the Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia in 1956 for the second time after 1952 in the Summer Olympics.

Attendees

Only two swimmers, Cheung Kin Man and Wan Shiu Ming, started . Cheung Kin Man, who had already participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics , started the 100 m freestyle and 400 m backstyle. Wan Shiu Ming started the 100 m freestyle and 400 m freestyle. Neither of them made it past the first run in any competition.
