Spain took part in the equestrian games of the 1956 Summer Olympics in Stockholm , Sweden (all men), with a delegation of six athletes at four regular competitor. No medals could be won. The youngest athlete was Carlos Figueroa (24 years and 189 days), the oldest athlete was Faustino Domínguez (51 years and 38 days). It was the eighth time the country had participated in the Summer Olympics . The standard bearer was Francisco Gómez-Jordana y Prats, Count of Jordana.

In the remaining competitions of the 1956 Summer Olympics, which were held five months after the equestrian games in Melbourne , Spain did not take part in protest against the bloody suppression of the Hungarian popular uprising by the troops of the Soviet Union .
