South Korea took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of 35 male athletes in 23 competitions in seven sports.

It was the country's third participation in the Summer Olympics since 1948 .

The youngest athlete was basketball player Kim Yeong-gi at 20 years and 321 days , and the oldest athlete was weightlifter Kim Seong-jip (37 years and 316 days).
