Yugoslavia participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of 35 athletes, 32 men and three women, in 16 competitions in eight sports.

It was Yugoslavia's eighth participation in the Summer Olympic Games .

The youngest athlete was the football player Dragoslav Šekularac at 18 years and 359 days , and the oldest athlete was the marathon runner Franjo Mihalić (36 years and 268 days).

Flag bearer

The water polo player Zdravko Kovačić carried the flag of Yugoslavia during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .
