Puerto Rico took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of ten male athletes in nine competitions in two sports.

It was Puerto Rico's third participation in the Summer Olympic Games .

The youngest athlete was the pole vaulter Rolando Cruz (17 years and 69 days), the oldest athlete was the sprinter Francisco Rivera (28 years and 267 days). The standard bearer was Daniel Cintrón.
