Colombia took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of 26 male athletes in 23 competitions in six sports.

Since 1932 it was Colombia's fourth participation in the Summer Olympics .

The youngest athlete, aged 24 years and 192 days, was the cyclist Ramón Hoyos , the oldest athlete was the weight lifter Carlos Caballero (29 years and 283 days).

Flag bearer

The athlete Jaime Aparicio carried the flag of Colombia during the opening ceremony in Melbourne's Olympic Stadium .
