Mexico took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of 24 athletes, 21 men and three women, in 20 competitions in ten sports.

It was Mexico's eighth participation in the Summer Olympic Games since 1900 .

The youngest athlete, aged 15 years and 150 days, was the swimmer Juan Botella , the oldest athlete was the sailor Raúl Ibarra (48 years and 239 days).

Flag bearer

Diver Joaquín Capilla carried the flag of Mexico during the opening ceremony in Melbourne's Olympic Stadium .
