Gillian Mary Sheen (born August 21, 1928 in London ) is a former British foil fencer .

Life

Gillian Sheen won the bronze medal with the team at the World Championships in Monte Carlo in 1950 . At the Olympic Games , she participated three times. In 1952 she was eliminated in the preliminary round in Helsinki , four years later she reached the final round. This she finished with six wins in first place shared with Olga Orbán . She prevailed in the subsequent play-off against Orbán with 4: 2 and became Olympic champion . At the 1960 Olympic Games in Romeshe did not get beyond the preliminary round in both the individual and team competition. She has been British champion ten times and won silver at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954 and gold in 1958 .

Sheen, who had studied dentistry at University College Hospital , married and took the surname Donaldson . She and her husband settled in New York City , where they both ran a dental practice.
