Maria Valentina Vezzali (born February 14, 1974 in Jesi ) is an Italian foil fencer . She won gold at all Summer Olympics from 1996 to 2012. From 2000 to 2008 she won singles. She was also Olympic champion three times with the team. She was also six times individual world champion and ten times team world champion, making her the most successful female fencer of all time.

- 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta : silver in foil - singles and gold with the team.
- Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney : two gold medals in the individual and in the team classification, also in foil
- 2004 Olympic Games in Athens : Gold in the individual foil, defeating her compatriot Giovanna Trillini in the final .
- 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing : gold in foil -Single, thereby defeating in the final from South Korea originating Nam Hyun-hee .
- Olympic Games 2012 in London : bronze in foil -Single, thereby defeating the small final from South Korea originating Nam Hyun-hee . Also gold with the team.
Championships
Valentina Vezzali became world champion for the first time in 1999 . She won her other individual world championship titles in 2001 , 2003 , 2005 , 2007 and 2011 . In 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 she was team world champion.
She was also five times European champion in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2009 and 2010. She also won gold with the Italian team in 1999, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
With 13 national championship titles, Vezzali is the Italian record holder.
Political career
Since the parliamentary elections in Italy 2013 on 24./25. February 2013 Valentina Vezzali sits in Parliament for the list of Mario Monti ( Scelta Civica con Monti per l'Italia).
Awards
- Italy's Sportswoman of the Year ( La Gazzetta dello Sport ): 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and World Sportswoman of the Year 2004 and World Team of the Year 2012 (together with Elisa Di Francisca , Arianna Errigo and Ilaria Salvatori )
- In 2008 she was awarded the “Premio Gianni Brera - Sportivo dell'anno” (Gianni Brera Prize).
