Antonella Ragno-Lonzi

Antonella Ragno-Lonzi (* 6. June 1940 in Mestre , Venice ) is a former Italian foil - fencer , the 1972 Olympic champion was. Antonella Ragno is the daughter of Olympic fencing champion Saverio Ragno . She later married the water polo Olympic champion Gianni Lonzi .

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , a team competition for female foil fencers was held for the first time. The Italian team with Irene Camber , Velleda Cesari , Bruna Colombetti , Claudia Pasini and Antonella Ragno won the bronze medal behind the teams from the Soviet Union and Hungary. There was also bronze for the Italian women at the Fencing World Championships in 1962 , 1963 and 1965 . In between, Ragno won bronze in the individual ranking at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo ; the Italian team finished fourth in 1964.

At the 1967 World Cup , Antonella Ragno reached the final in the individual competition and won the silver medal behind Alexandra Sabelina from the Soviet Union. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , she finished 6th with the Italian team. Four years later, the team reached fourth place in Munich in 1972 . In the individual competition she won the gold medal twenty years after her trainer Irene Camber won the Olympic Games.

At Italian championships Antonella Ragno-Lonzi won a total of nine titles, only Valentina Vezzali achieved four more titles.
