Ilona Elek
Ilona Schacherer-Elek , also known as Elek-Schacherer , (born May 17, 1907 in Budapest , † July 24, 1988 there ) was a Hungarian foil fencer .
Life
The exceptional athlete only started taking part in competitions at the age of 26. With her victory in the foil women's singles in 1936, she became the first Hungarian gold medalist at the Olympic Games.
After the Olympic Games in 1940 and 1944 were canceled as a result of the Second World War , you succeeded in winning again in 1948.
At the age of 48, she won the bronze medal in singles and gold with the team at the 1955 World Championships. She ended her active career at the age of 50.
Ilona Elek died in 1988 and is buried in the Farkasréti cemetery in Budapest.

The multiple Hungarian national champion in foil fencing became individual world champion in 1934, 1935 and 1951 at the age of 44.
