Valentina Xenofontowna Rastworowa ( Russian Валентина Ксенофонтовна Растворова ; born July 17, 1933 in Odessa , Ukrainian SSR ; † August 24, 2018 in Moscow ) was a Soviet foil fencer .

Life

Valentina Rastvorova became five times world champion : in 1958 she won the title in Philadelphia in the individual, and in 1956 , 1958, 1961 and 1965 with the team. In addition, she won two silver medals with the team and a bronze medal in the individual. Rastvorova took part in three Olympic Games . 1956 in Melbourne she was eliminated in the preliminary round of the individual competition. In 1960 in Rome she became unbeaten Olympic champion together with Galina Gorochowa , Tazzjana Pjatrenka-Samussenka , Walentina Prudskowa , Lyudmila Schischowa and Alexandra Sabelina . In the final they defeated Hungary 9-3. In the individual, she also reached the final round, which she finished behind Heidi Schmid in silver. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , she reached the final against Hungary again in the team competition with Galina Gorochowa, Valentina Prudskowa, Tazzjana Pjatrenka-Samussenka and Lyudmila Schischowa, which this time went 9: 7 to the opposing team. In the individual she was ninth.

After her active career, she worked as a fencing trainer in Moscow. She was married to Boris Grischin , an Olympic water polo player. Their son Yevgeny Grischin became Olympic champion in water polo, daughter Jelena Grischina competed in two Olympic fencing competitions.
