Lídia Dömölky-Sákovics (born March 9, 1936 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian foil fencer .

successes

Lídia Dömölky-Sákovics won nine medals at world championships . In 1955 she won the singles world championship in Rome and took second place in Gdansk in 1963 . With the team she won the title three times: 1955 in Rome, 1959 in Budapest and 1967 in Montreal . In addition, she was three times second and once third in the team competition. She participated in four Olympic Games . In 1956 in Melbourne and 1960 in Rome, she was eliminated in the preliminary round of the individual competition. In the team competition in 1960, however, they moved to the final against the Soviet Union , which was lost 3: 9. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , she met the Hungarian team again in the final against the Soviet Union and this time won 9: 7. Together with Katalin Juhász , Paula Marosi , Judit Ágoston-Mendelényi and Ildikó Ujlakiné-Rejtő , she became Olympic champion . In the individual she was ninth. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , she finished 13th in singles. With the team she secured another medal after defeating Romania in the semifinals . In the third final against the Soviet Union in a row this time the Hungarians were left behind and received the silver medal.

She was married to the Olympic fencer József Sákovics .
