Dorina Vaccaroni (* 24. September 1963 in Lido di Venezia ) is a former Italian foil - fencer who was one of more than ten years to a class and won gold medals at all major championships.

Career

Dorina Vaccaroni was already a youth world champion when she first took part in the Olympic Games at the age of 16. A year later she won her first medals at the European and World Championships. In 1982 she won the European Championships in Mödling. At the World Championships in Rome she was only defeated in the final to Nailja Giljasowa from the Soviet Union; Together with Carola Cicconetti , Anna Rita Sparaciari , Clara Mochi , she won the team title, the first title for the Italian squadra in 25 years. A year later Dorina Vaccaroni won the world title in the individual competition in Vienna against Carola Cicconetti; the Squadra was able to defend its title from the previous year. In 1984 Dorina Vaccaroni won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles after losing to the German Cornelia Hanisch in the semifinals . With the Squadra she missed the final in the semifinals against the German team after an 8: 8 for one goal, in the battle for bronze the French team then won.

After a break from competition, Dorina Vaccaroni returned to the Squadra at the 1987 World Cup. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she won silver with the Squadra behind the German team.
