Margherita Zalaffi (born April 7, 1966 in Siena ) is a former Italian fencer .

successes

Margherita Zalaffi achieved all international successes in the team competition. She initially fought with the foil before switching to the rapier in the course of her career . With the foil she became world champion in Lyon in 1990 and in Budapest in 1991 and also won a silver medal and two bronze medals. With the sword she won bronze in 2001 in Nîmes . At the European Championships in 1999 in Bozen , she won the title with her sword. Zalaffi took part in five Olympic Games . In 1984 in Los Angeles she finished 15th in the individual, while she just missed a medal win with the team in fourth. Four years later in Seoul she was ninth in the individual. With the team she reached the final against Germany , which was lost 4: 9, and thus received the silver medal together with Francesca Bortolozzi , Annapia Gandolfi , Lucia Traversa and Dorina Vaccaroni . The 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona were even more successful when they once again reached the final with the team, in which the German team was defeated 9: 6 this time. In addition to Diana Bianchedi , Francesca Bortolozzi, Giovanna Trillini and Dorina Vaccaroni, Zalaffi became Olympic champion . She finished the individual competition in fifth place.
