Margherita Granbassi (born September 1, 1979 in Trieste ) is a former Italian foil fencer .
successes
Margherita Granbassi won the title with the team at the European Championships in 2001 in Koblenz and in 2005 in Zalaegerszeg . Her best performance in the individual was winning the silver medal in 2008 in Kiev . She was also world champion in 2006 in Turin in the singles and in 2004 in New York City and 2009 in Antalya with the team. She won silver three more times, once in an individual and twice with the team. Granbassi took part in two Olympic Games . In 2004 in Athens she entered the individual competition and took tenth place. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she reached the individual semi-finals, in which she was defeated by Valentina Vezzali 3:12. In the battle for bronze she prevailed against Giovanna Trillini with 15:12. She also won bronze with the team after a final 32:23 win against Hungary .
