history
The diocese Rustenburg was on June 28, 1971 by Pope Paul VI. Erected from the cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Pretoria as Apostolic Prefecture Rustenburg .
The Apostolic Prefecture of Rustenburg was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II on November 18, 1987 and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pretoria as a suffragan .
