Gianni Brera
Giovanni Luigi "Gianni" Brera (born September 8, 1919 in San Zenone al Po , † December 19, 1992 in Codogno ) was an Italian sports journalist and writer.
Life
Brera was the correspondent of the Gazzetta dello Sport in Paris from 1945 and served as its director from 1949 to 1954. In his subsequent professional career he wrote for Il Tempo , Il Giornale and La Repubblica, among others . In addition, he published a number of books on the Italian sports world and wrote several novels. It achieved a particularly lasting effect through the coining of numerous neologisms (including the internationally known Libero ), which found their way into the Italian football jargon and represent significant parts of its conceptual basis.
The third Milanese club Brera Calcio was founded in his honor . The club plays its home games in Parco Sempione in the Arena Civica in Milan . In 2002 the arena was named after him.
