Mexico was represented at the Olympic Games for the 21st time byparticipating in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . The first participation was in 1900. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the diver Paola Espinosa . At the closing ceremony, the Mexican flag was carried by Espinosa's dubbing partner Tatiana Ortiz . Compared to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the number of medals for Mexico fell from 4 to 3, but in 2004 the Mexican athletes were unable to win a gold medal - in Beijing, on the other hand, they were more successful with 2 gold medals.
