In 2008, Estonia took partin the Summer Olympics for the 10th timeas an independent nation. From 1908 to 1912, the athletes participated together with the Russian team, and from 1952 to 1988 the Estonian athletes were part of the Soviet Union team . All 47 athletes who qualified for the Games in thirteen different sports were nominated by the Estonian Olympic Committee . This makes the delegation the largest in the nation's history. The rower Jüri Jaanson (43), who is taking part in the Olympic Games for the sixth time, is the oldest Estonian participant in the Olympic Games. The judoka Martin Padar carried the flag at the opening ceremony.

Press and mass media
The Estonian Television is at the Beijing Games with a sixteen-member team ( Marko Kaljuveer , Anu Säärits , Lembitu Kuuse , Helar Osila , clean Sokk , Kristjan Kalkun , Astrid Kannel , Andres Kuusk and Priit Kuusk live almost 400 hours) on site and transfers from Beijing. The Eesti radio sends a team of six ( Hanno Tomberg , Tiit Karuks , Erik Lillo , Tarmo Tiisler , Vallo Kelmsaar and Andrian Tšeremenin live about 160 hours).
In addition to the transmission by ETV, the transmitter ETV2 was installed, which is supposed to send additional image material that does not fit into the schedule. There are also some Estonian newspapers and magazines in Beijing for reporting.
