Kenya took part in the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing for the twelfth time in a summer Olympic tournament. The athletes were named by the National Olympic Committee Kenya . A total of 46 athletes competed in five sports for Kenya, including 18 female and 28 female athletes.
In the men's 3000 meter obstacle course , Kenya won the gold medal for the seventh time in a row and for the ninth time overall. Pamela Jelimo was the first Kenyan Olympic champion ever on August 18th. With six gold, four silver and four bronze medals, Kenya was more successful than ever before. Only in 1988 had Kenyans won gold five times, but in 1988 the team had only been able to reach gold nine times.
Kenya has won all medals in athletics since boxer Robert Wangila won the Olympic Games in 1988. The swimmer Jason Dunford, fifth in the 100 meter butterfly, was the best non-athlete in the Kenyan team in Beijing.
On November 18, 2009, Rashid Ramzi , the winner of the 1500-meter race, was stripped of his gold medal due to a doping offense. Asbel Kiprop was subsequently awarded the gold medal.
