Rashid Ramzi ( Arabic رشيد رمزي Raschid Ramzi , DMG Rašīd Ramzī ; * July 17, 1980 in Safi ) is a Bahraini middle-distance runner of Moroccan origin.
Career
At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , he won gold over 800 and over 1500 meters . With this double victory, he was the first athlete to win a double over 800 and 1500 meters at world championships. Only two middle distance athletes had previously achieved this at the Olympic Games: New Zealander Peter Snell won both distances at the 1964 Olympic Games , and Albert Hill had previously been successful at both middle distance at the 1920 Olympic Games .
He was seriously injured in a car accident near Rabat on January 19, 2013. His training partner Abderrahim Goumri was killed.
Doping affair
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , Ramzi crossed the finish line first over 1500 meters. On April 29, 2009, the National Olympic Committee of Bahrain confirmed that Ramzi had tested positive for the EPO compound CERA during follow-up tests on doping samples taken during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games . CERA was also found in the B sample. Then the Olympic gold medal he was stripped and the IAAF detained him for two years.
