Ajay Kumar Saroj (born May 1, 1997 in Allahabad , Uttar Pradesh ) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the 800 and 1500 meter run .

Athletic career

Ajay Kumar Saroj gained his first international experience at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing , where he won the bronze medal in the 1,500-meter run in 4: 05.76 minutes. The following year he took part in the Youth Olympic Games there and finished fifth with 3: 46.92 minutes. In 2016 he finished fifth at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha in 3: 47.26 minutes and then won the Asian Junior Championships in Ho Chi Minh City in 3: 57.55 minutes . He qualified for the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he was fifth in 3: 49.52 min. In 2017 he won the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 3: 45.85 minutes and the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 3: 48.67 minutes. Two years later he had to admit defeat only to Abraham Rotich from Bahrain at the Asian Championships in Doha after 3: 43.18 minutes . At the beginning of December he won the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 3: 54.18 minutes.

In 2015 and 2018, Kumar Saroya became Indian champion in the 1500 meter run and in 2015 also over 800 meters.
