Mohamed Suleiman

Mohamed Suleiman ( Arabic محمد سليمان, DMG Muḥammad Sulaimān ; *  November 23, 1969 ) is a former Qatari medium and long distance runner of Somali origin.

He comes from the same clan as the world-class runners Abdi Bile , Abdihakem Abdirahman and Mohammed Farah but started for Qatar since his youth and initially focused on the 1,500 meter run .

At the age of 18 he qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, but did not get beyond the preliminary run. At the World Athletics Championships in 1991 he was ninth.

In 1992 he celebrated his greatest success when he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona behind Fermín Cacho (ESP) and Rachid El Basir (MAR). It was the first ever Olympic medal for Qatar.

At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, he was fourth in the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg seventh in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and finished ninth in the World Cup 1997 in Athens sixth.

At the end of his career, he switched to the 5000-meter run at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and came in 14th place.
