Abdihakem "Abdi" Abdirahman (born January 1, 1977 ) is an American long-distance runner of Somali origin.

Life

On January 28, 2000, he received US citizenship and qualified straight away for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where he was tenth in the 10,000-meter run . The following year he became US champion over the same distance and finished 19th at the 2001 World Athletics Championships . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he came in 15th place over 10,000 m. In the same year he started the marathon distance for the first time and finished 14th in the New York City Marathon in 2:17:09 h.

In 2005 he was m US champion over 10,000 and 10 miles - road race , set over 5000 meters with 13: 13,32 minutes his personal record and improved the New York City Marathon to fifth place.

In 2006 he won the national title over 10 miles again, improved his 10,000 meter time to 27: 22.81 minutes and finished fourth in the Chicago Marathon in 2:08:56. He was the fifth American to break the 2:09 mark.

The following year he became national champion in the 10,000 m as well as in the 10 km and 10 mile road run. At the 2007 World Cup , he was seventh over 10,000 m. In the elimination race of the US federation for the marathon of the Olympic Games 2008 , however, he did not reach the goal.

Abdirahman came to the United States at the age of twelve and attended Pima Community College in Tucson . He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Retail & Consumer Studies .
