Govindan Lakshmanan (born June 5, 1990 in Sokkurani , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian athlete who competes in long-distance running .

Athletic career

Govindan Lakshmanan gained his first international experience in 2013 at the Asian Championships in Pune , where he finished fourth over 5000 and 10,000 meters. Two years later he took part in the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang , where he was 74. He then won the 10,000 meter silver medal behind the Bahraini El Hassan el-Abbassi at the Asian Championships in Wuhan . He also won the bronze medal over 5000 meters in 13: 36.62 minutes. At the Military World Games in Mungyeong , South Korea , he finished sixth over the same distance in 13: 45.85 minutes. Two years later he celebrated a double victory over 5000 and 10,000 meters at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar . He received a bye for both distances for the World Championships in London , which only started over 5000 meters. With 13: 35.85 min he retired in the first lap . At the beginning of September he also won the gold medal at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 8: 02.30 minutes.

The following year he took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the first time and finished sixth there in 14: 17.09 min. He was also disqualified in the 10,000 meter run .

In 2013 Lakshaman became Indian champion in the 5000 meter run . His adoptive father S. Loganathan was also active as a track and field athlete, as was his adoptive sister Suriya Loganathan .
