Kunimitsu Itō ( Japanese 伊藤 国 光 , Itō Kunimitsu; born January 6, 1955 ) is a former Japanese long-distance runner .

1975 he won the Kumanichi road running and won in the track and Asian Games about 5000 m . In 1977 he won again in the Kumanichi road race and came third in the Lake Biwa marathon . The following year he was third in the Beppu-Ōita marathon and eleventh in the Fukuoka marathon .

In 1979 a fifth place in the Lake Biwa marathon was followed by a silver medal over 10,000 m at the Asian Championships. At the marathon of the People's Spartakiad and at the Fukuoka Marathon he was eighth.

In 1980 he won the Kumanichi Road Race and came third in Fukuoka. In 1981 he won over 10,000 m at the Asian Championships and was seventh at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal . At the end of the season he finished second in Fukuoka. The following year he finished ninth in the Golden Athens Marathon and fourth in Fukuoka. In 1983 he retired from the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 10,000 m in the preliminary run and was sixth in Fukuoka.

In 1984 he finished second in the Beijing Marathon and fifth in Fukuoka. In 1985 a victory in the Ōme marathon was followed by a 77th place in the IAAF World Cup marathon and a third place in Fukuoka. In 1986 he defended his title in Ōme. He finished tenth in the Boston Marathon and second in the Beijing Marathon.

At the 1989 Boston Marathon , he came eighth.

In 1980 he became Japanese champion over 10,000 m.
