The men's 10,000 meter run at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place on August 7 and 9, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .
34 athletes from 25 countries took part in the competition. The gold medal was won by the reigning European champion Alberto Cova in 28: 01.04 min, silver went to the two-time vice European champion from 1982 ( 5000 / 10,000 meters) Werner Schildhauer with 28: 01.18 min. Hansjörg Kunze won the bronze medal with a time of 28: 01.26 minutes.
