The women's 4-by-100-meter relay at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place on August 10, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .
15 relay teams with 60 runners took part in the competition. There were no line-up changes during the two rounds of the competition. The gold medal was won by the relay of the German Democratic Republic after 41.76 seconds in the cast of Silke Möller , Marita Koch , Ingrid Auerswald and Marlies Göhr .
Silver went to the United Kingdom in 42.71 seconds with Joan Baptiste , Kathy Cook , Beverley Callender and Shirley Thomas .
The bronze medal went to Jamaica ( Leleith Hodges , Jacqueline Pusey , Juliet Cuthbert , Merlene Ottey ) in 42.73 s.
