The shot put men at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics took place on August 7, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland instead.

20 athletes from 13 countries took part in the competition. The gold medal was won by Edward Sarul from Poland with 21.39 m, silver went to Ulf Timmermann from the GDR with 21.16 m, and the bronze medal went to Remigius Machura, third in the Czechoslovak European Championship in 1982, with 20.98 m.
