Dave Loud

Dave Laut (actually David Lester Laut; born December 21, 1956 in Findlay , Ohio , † August 27, 2009 in Oxnard ) was an American shot putter .

In 1979 he won the Pan American Games in San Juan and was fourth at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal . At the Athletics World Cup in 1981 he was third and at the World Athletics Championships in 1983 fourth.

He celebrated the most important success of his career at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There he won the bronze medal behind Alessandro Andrei and Michael Carter with a distance of 20.97 m . In 1985 he finished fourth at the Athletics World Cup in Canberra .

Four times he was US champion (1979, 1981, 1983, 1985) and twice for the University of California, Los Angeles starting NCAA -Master (1978, 1979).

Dave Laut was 1.93 m tall and weighed 114 kg during his playing days. He was married, had a son and worked as a teacher after his sporting career. On the late evening of August 27, 2009, at the age of 52, he was shot dead outside his home in Oxnard. On February 13, 2010, his widow Jane Laut was arrested as a suspect, citing self-defense as a reason.
