The men's discus throw at the 1983 World Athletics Championships was held on August 13-14, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .

26 athletes from 17 countries took part in the competition. The gold medal was won by the Czechoslovak Olympic runner-up in 1980 , European champion in 1982 and European championship third in 1978, Imrich Bugár with 67.72 m. Silver went to the Cuban Olympic third party from 1980 Luis Delís with 67.36 m, and the bronze medal went to the Czechoslovak Gejza Valent with 66.08 m.
