Konstantinos Georgakopoulos ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος Γεωργακόπουλος , born December 26, 1890 in Tripoli (Greece) ; † 1978 or July 26, 1973 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former prime minister.

Degree and military judge

He graduated in Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens . During the Balkan Wars in 1912 and 1913 he served as a reserve officer. In 1915 he became a judge in a military tribunal . In 1923 he was discharged from military justice service with the rank of colonel . He then was a lecturer in law at the University of Athens until 1951.

Political career

His political career began in 1928 when he joined the People's Party. From November 1935 to August 1936 he was Undersecretary of State in the cabinets of Konstantinos Demertzis and Ioannis Metaxas . He was then Minister of Education in the cabinet of the dictator Metaxas. After differences of opinion with Metaxas, he resigned on November 25, 1938 from his office as Minister of Education.

Since 1948 he was President of the Greek Red Cross.

From March 5 to May 17, 1958 he was Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of a transitional government between two cabinets of Konstantinos Karamanlis . From the election he organized on May 11, 1958, the winner was the Ethniki Rizospastiki Enosis (National Radical Union, ERE) of Karamanlis, to whom he then handed over the office of Prime Minister.
