The men's discus throw at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held on August 26 and 27, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .
World champion was the German Lars Riedel , who came here to his first major international title win. He won ahead of Erik de Bruin from the Netherlands . Bronze went to the Hungarian Attila Horváth .

qualification
August 26, 1991, 11:40 a.m.
34 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 64.00 m. Three athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the nine next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 62.32 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
