The men's 1500-meter race at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held from August 29 to September 1, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .

World champion was the Algerian Noureddine Morceli , who celebrated his first major success here. For a few years, Morceli played a decisive role in what happened on this route. Second place went to Kenyan Wilfred Kirochi . A surprising third was the German Hauke Fuhlbrügge , who snatched the bronze medal from his compatriot Jens-Peter Herold , the reigning European champion , with the last steps after Herold had already jubilantly stretched his arms up and was happy too early.
