The men's 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held on August 31 and September 1, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .
Great Britain became world champion with the line-up Roger Black (final), Derek Redmond , John Regis (final) and Kriss Akabusi as well as Ade Mafe and Mark Richardson, who were also used in the preliminary run . In the final, this team set a new European record.
Second place went to the USA with Andrew Valmon (final), Quincy Watts , Danny Everett and Antonio Pettigrew (final) as well as Jeff Reynolds and Mark Everett, who were also used in the preliminary run .
Bronze went to Jamaica with Patrick O'Connor , Devon Morris , Winthrop Graham (final) and Seymour Fagan, as well as Howard Burnett, who was also used in the preliminary run .
The runners only used in the run-up were given corresponding precious metal. The European record achieved by the victorious British relay team in the final was only available to the runners actually used.
