Samson Kitur

Samson Kitur (born February 25, 1966 in Eldoret , † April 25, 2003 in Ziwa ) was a Kenyan sprinter . His greatest achievement was winning the bronze medal in the 400-meter run at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Samson Kitur did not run, like most runners in his country, 800 meters and further, but specialized in the 400-meter run from the start . His greatest achievement was winning the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona behind the Americans Quincy Watts and Steve Lewis . In the run-up he set the current national record with 44.18 s.

A year later, he won the bronze medal in the 400 m at the World Championships in Stuttgart and won the silver medal in the 4 x 400 m relay with the Kenyan team .

On April 25, 2003, he suddenly died of a serious illness on his farm in Ziwa near Eldoret in Kenya. According to his older brother, David Kitur , Samson had previously complained of a headache.
