The men's marathon at the 1991 World Athletics Championships was held on September 1, 1991 in the streets of the Japanese capital, Tokyo .
The Japanese Hiromi Taniguchi became world champion . As in the 1987 World Championships , Ahmed Salah from Djibouti won the silver medal in the 1988 Olympic third and 1985 African champion . Bronze went to the American Steve Spence .
