Salvatore Bettiol

Salvatore Bettiol (born November 28, 1961 in Volpago del Montello ) is a former Italian long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon distance .

In 1986 and 1987 he won the first two events of the Venice Marathon . In his second win, he was also Italian champion. He won other national championship titles in 1986 and 1988 in the half marathon and in 1991 in the marathon.

At the 1987 IAAF World Cup marathon in Seoul, Bettiol came third. In the following two years he finished second and fourth in the New York City Marathon . At the London Marathon in 1990 he finished second and at the European Athletics Championships in the same year he was fourth. He finished the marathon of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in fifth place.

In 1993 and 1994 he was fourth in the London Marathon and set his personal best of 2:09:40 h in the latter participation. At the Rotterdam Marathon he reached sixth place in 1995 and 20th place at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. After that, Bettiol remained active for another eight years. Towards the end of his career, he came third twice in the Masters class of the Boston Marathon (2003 and 2004).

Salvatore Bettiol is 1.78 m tall and had a competition weight of 57 kg. He trains the marathon runner Bruna Genovese .
