Hiromi Taniguchi

Hiromi Taniguchi ( Japanese 谷口 浩 美 Taniguchi Hiromi ; born April 5, 1960 in Nangō , Miyazaki Prefecture ) is a former Japanese long-distance runner .

In his home country he could at the Tokyo World Championships in 1991 the title in the marathon win, with the extreme conditions (heat and 73% humidity) were reflected (2:14:57 h) in the winning time. This is the only title so far that male Japanese marathon runners have been able to win at world championships (as of 2007), at the Olympic Games only the Korean-born Japanese Son Kitei won for Japan in 1936.

Taniguchi's other successes in international championships were a second place at the 1986 Asian Games and an eighth place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona .

He also won the London Marathon in 1987 , twice the Tokyo International Men's Marathon (1987 and 1989) and 1990 the Rotterdam Marathon .

He set his best time (2:07:40 h) at the Beijing Marathon in 1988 .
