The preliminary round was carried out in five runs. The first three athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the fastest runner, were earmarked for qualification for the semi-finals. But in the end it didn't come to that. In the second preliminary run, two participants with the identical time of 13.72 s took third place, who had thus acquired the right to participate in the semi-finals through their placements. The fourth fastest with 13.47 s, Pole Piotr Wojcik from the fourth heat, fell by the wayside.
